Emilie’s legacy lives on
Our charity shop began with an idea from club member Emilie Maguire. During a family visit to Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Emilie and her husband PJ saw the hardship faced by refugees and met Sister Josephine, whose work inspired Emilie to pledge £30,000 towards a house for a family in need.
On the flight home, Emilie announced her plan to open a charity shop. She found premises and, with support from fellow Lions and the community, turned that promise into reality. Within 18 months, the shop had raised enough to complete the house.
Emilie died in February 2022, having seen the difference her initiative made. Her legacy continues through the volunteers who run the shop and the generosity of everyone who donates, shops and lends a hand.
Today, the shop supports local needs, Northern Ireland charities and international appeals. Its work has included support for Ukrainian refugees and a partnership with Larne Food Bank. It is also a place to meet, share a laugh and feel part of village life.
Good finds. Even better causes.
